"Kleiner Stein – was nun?"

Under the title “Kleiner Stein – was nun?”, we are continuing our series “Psychoanalysis and Dance Studies in Cinema” in cooperation with City Kino Wedding. In the winter semester 2025/26, the film screening will take place at the cinema from January 23 to 25, 2026, and this year focuses on absurdist cinema.

Moderation and discussion: Andreas Hamburger, Veronika Heller, and Friederike Bassenge.

Together, we will watch and reflect on cinematic masterpieces that, in their radicalism, visual language, and physicality, stage the absurd in very different ways: Eraserhead (1977, David Lynch), You, the Living (2007, Roy Andersson), and Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022, Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert). Under the title “Kleiner Stein – was nun?”, we examine the dynamics between ourselves, the films, and their unconscious potential, as well as the complex interrelationships between film, psychoanalysis, and dance studies. The focus is not on traditional film criticism, but on the unconscious experience of the viewers.

In addition to the film screenings, the discussions, analyses, and specialist lectures are essential to the seminar. They give participants the opportunity to engage intensively with the films and, at the same time, with their own experience in the cinema. The seminar dates in the weeks before and after the film screenings will take place at the IPU premises.

The event is aimed at anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the complex interactions in film—whether students, professionals, or film enthusiasts.

We ask students to budget for the cinema admission (reduced rate) when registering. Friends, acquaintances, and external guests are also welcome to participate; all they need is a ticket to the City Kino Wedding.
