The IPU was awarded its institutional accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities, the Wissenschaftsrat, effective as of 27 November 2014, and was successfully re-accredited for five additional years in April 2020.

The Berlin State Office for Health and Social Affairs has confirmed that the IPU's MA Psychology (focusing on clinical psychology and psychotherapy) in combination with the BA Psychology (psychotherapy focus) degree fulfils the qualifications for attending the training to qualify as a psychotherapist.
