Within the STIBET I Program, the DAAD provides (partial) scholarships funded by the German Federal Foreign Office to support international students at German universities. These scholarships are available to students enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs.
International students at IPU Berlin can apply if they are not German citizens, obtained their university entrance qualification abroad, and are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program at the university.
Currently, two types of STIBET I scholarships are offered:
The Scholarships for Outstanding Engagement provide funding of 550 € per month for at least three months. They are awarded to international students who have achieved good academic results and demonstrate outstanding engagement in an international context at their university.
The Graduation Scholarships also provide 550 € per month for at least three months and are intended for international students in the final phase of their studies. Applicants should be expected to complete their degree within one year, have achieved good academic results, and be facing financial difficulties through no fault of their own that may hinder the successful completion of their studies.
For both scholarship types, applicants are required to complete the Microsoft Application Form (see “Application”). The application deadline for all scholarships is 15 April 2026.
If you have any questions or need support with your application, please feel free to contact the International Office at international(at)ipu-berlin.de.
The preconditions for support are that the student or PhD candidate have gained good study achievements, in addition to distinguishing themselves at their university through their outstanding commitment and engagement in an international context, which could be verified for instance by the setting-up of a "buddy program" to support new foreign students. Further fields of activity can for instance be social and professional supervision and monitoring work, language-based tandem cooperative arrangements, assistance in cultural programs, organization of excursions, arranging events to explore the country and its culture, care and supervision activities in student dormitories, language courses, etc. The support is provided for 1 to 3 months.
The preconditions for the support are that students and PhD candidates have gained good study achievements and are expected to conclude their studies successfully within one year. Furthermore, the scholarships provided here to complete a degree are intended to permit foreign students and PhD candidates, who are in need due to no fault of their own, to concentrate on their studies and gain their degree with financial support. The degree scholarships can be granted for a maximum of six months.
