Lillian Oliver was recently awarded the DAAD Prize 2024.
Lillian Oliver is in her third semester of the MA Psychology Focusing on Organization at the IPU Berlin. Previously, the American was a student at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
In his laudatory speech, the IPU President Prof. Jan-Hendrik Olbertz, who awarded her the DAAD Prize, said: “Lillian Oliver quickly integrated into her Berlin environment, and that in itself is a great achievement. However, I would like to highlight her participation in a research project in Eisenhüttenstadt. This project was a particular challenge for international students and yet a success, which is also thanks to Ms. Oliver. She has also launched a peer support program for international students, contributed to guest lectures, and advocated for topics such as sustainability and social justice in socio-political initiatives such as the Green Office. Lillian Oliver also engages artistically with the scientific production of knowledge. The works represent a socially critical approach to the world and focus on the contradictions of subjectivization. A small exhibition at the IPU is planned for 2025 that can showcase this side of her work, which is closely related to Adorno's programmatic question of what art as historiography is if it shakes off the memory of accumulated suffering. Ms. Oliver impressively combines academic excellence, social commitment, and artistic creation. By awarding her the DAAD Prize, we would like to honor her extraordinary achievements and encourage her in her future endeavors.”
