The ongoing pilot phase of the research project seeks to explore coping strategies and potential courses of action for dealing with climate change: What is being defended against, how and why? What fears, fantasies and illusions are associated with the experience of the climate crisis? Are there differences between people who subjectively experience themselves as taking action and people who passively confront the phenomenon?
The planned qualitative study will center on examining both defensive and appropriative processes in response to the climate crisis. To achieve this, individual and group interviews will be carried out, involving participants from diverse social groups (varying in education, age, origin, etc.). The aim is to explore subjective and collective coping strategies employed in addressing climate change.
Conducting psychoanalytical research on defense and appropriation mechanisms in the context of the climate crisis seeks to contribute to the vital societal goal of maintaining awareness of the alarming facts related to climate change within individual and collective consciousness. This, in turn, aims to foster the capacity for effective action.
