He is currently in the fourth semester of IPU's master's program and originates from Quito, Ecuador. The IPU would like to offer its congratulations to Mr. Cordovez Cartwright on winning the DAAD Prize. In his address, President Jan-Hendrik Olbertz pointed out "how enriching international students like Mauricio Cordovez Cartwright are for our university and our society".

Cordovez was involved in the IPU mentoring program, which was formed in order to support new students upon their arrival to Berlin. This involves, for example, helping them register in Berlin, open an bank account, or sign up for health insurance. In addition, he took over the role of student commission leader and was involved in the "Let's talk about racism" group, for which he organized several discussions.

The DAAD Prize is endowed with 1,000€ and is awarded each year to an excellent student from abroad. This prize is awarded to international students who, in addition to very good academic performance, enrich the IPU and our society through their volunteer work.
