Prof. Dr. Jos De Backer

Prof. Jos De Backer, PhD is professor at the medical faculty KU Leuven, department neuroscience. Coordinator and Professor at the LUCA School of Arts, campus Lemmens of master and bachelor in music therapy. He is head of the Music Therapy Department at the University Psychiatric Centre KU Leuven, campus Kortenberg where he works as a music therapist treating young psychotic patients and borderline patients.

He is specialized in psychoanalytic music therapy and clinical improvisation and gives lectures and workshops about this topic around the world. Prof. De Backer is senior researcher in the research unit for Music & Drama and principal investigator in the research group contextual psychiatry KU Leuven.

Prof. De Backer is Board member of the Consortium for Research and Education in music therapy of 8 universities. He was 9 years president of the European Music Therapy Confederation (EMTC).
