Short Project Description

he EVA project deals with the evaluation of two early prevention programmes in kindergartens. As many studies from the fields of empirical infant research, attachment research and psychoanalysis verify, supportive emotional relationship experiences in the first years of life are the best precondition for a successful psychic, cognitive and psychosocial development, including the acquisition of language. A diverse range of prevention programmes do utilise these empirical findings and strive to have early intervention and support for children already at kindergarten age. However, unfortunately these programmes do not reach all families, as for instance families with a migration background frequently do not learn about these options.

With this background in mind, the EVA project is assessing the differential effectiveness of two proven prevention programmes – FISTLESS and EARLY STEPS. The two prevention projects are each being conducted in seven selected kindergartens, which expressed an interest in conducting these projects. The aim of the project is to assess whether the additional work and outlays in Prevention Option 1 "EARLY STEPS" are worthwhile both over the short and the long-term compared to the standardised Prevention Option 2 "FISTLESS", and what are the benefits and disadvantages of both prevention programmes. A replication of the EVA study has been conducted since September 2011.

Currently (2017), the data evaluation and a publication in a peer-reviewed English journal is ongoing.
