The project aims to collaboratively develop a manual for advanced training in modified psychodynamic therapy for psychosis, catering to medical and psychological psychotherapists. Unlike previous publications such as "Psychodynamische PT der Schizophrenien - ein Manual" by Lempa, von Haebler, Montag (2016, psychosozial Verlag) and "Modifizierte psychodynamische Psychotherapie: Werkzeuge, Konzepte, Fallbeispiele" by Haebler, Lempa, Montag (2022, V&R Verlag), this handbook seeks to delve into the historical and theoretical underpinnings in greater depth through extensive research. It will also establish connections with the authors' own concepts. Furthermore, the handbook will adopt a distinct didactic approach and serve as a necessary complement to the aforementioned publications. Additional chapters addressing relevant topics such as group psychotherapy and inpatient psychotherapy, which couldn't be accommodated in previous formats, will be included in this handbook.
The underlying issue here is the persistent underutilization of psychotherapeutic interventions for individuals with schizophrenic psychoses. Despite the inclusion of psychosis psychotherapy in the psychotherapy guidelines for all severity levels and phases of the illness, there remains a lack of focus on these patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. One contributing factor is the limited exposure to psychosis therapy during the training of psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and psychoanalysts, resulting in a gap in their expertise. This gap is reflected in the provision of mental health care services. Thus, the aim of the handbook is to establish a comprehensive foundation for training or further training in this area, with the ultimate goal of facilitating high-quality, more accessible psychotherapy for individuals with psychoses.
