Funded Language Courses Abroad

Since 2013, the IPU Berlin has participated in the DAAD program PROMOS. In addition to exchange studies and internships, this program also supports language courses abroad. Thanks to PROMOS, IPU students have participated in Hebrew courses in Israel and English courses in the UK and, thus, not only improved their foreign language skills, but also gained valuabel international experiences.

Which Services Comprises the Funding?

In the framework of PROMOS, languages courses abroad between 3 weeks up to 6 months can be supported. The financial support consists of a country specific scholarship, a lump sum for travel costs and a fixed subsidy for the course fees. Current funding rates can be found here (in German only).

Which documents have to be submitted?

  • Application form
  • Letter of motivation (max. one page)
  • CV
  • Transcript of records/grade overview
  • Confirmation of registration of the language school (can be submitted after the funding approval)

Selection Procedure and Application Deadline

First, the International Office accepts the applications and assesses the applicants' formal eligibility for funding. Afterwards, the IPU's Commission of International Affairs distributes the scholarships primaily on the basis of GPA and motivation.

The application deadline is always on 30 November for the first half of the following year (funding period starts between 01.01. and 30.06) and on 30 April for the second half (funding period starts between 01.07 and 31.12.).
