The codification of difference is the most profound challenge of human existence and at the same time the conditio sine qua non for both the psychic structuring of the subject as well as the cultural constitution of our living environments.
Entitled ›Concealing – Revealing‹ and with this as its focus, the second round of the four-semester ›As We Like It: Paradoxes of Aesthetics‹ Public Lecture Series at the International Psychoanalytic University (IPU), which commenced last semester, is concerned with the aestheticisation of experiences of difference, and with how this is located paradigmatically in the gender and generational difference especially.
The contributions this semester will again elucidate various disciplinary approaches and take into account in this way not only the complexity of the theme, but also the IPU's aim of establishing a fruitful interdisciplinary exchange in which reflection on the aesthetic self-conception of psychoanalysis can itself also flourish.
The opening talk in the summer semester on 24 April is being held by Dr. Lisa Schmuckli from Lucerne. Lisa Schmuckli is a freelance psychoanalyst and philosopher. Her talk on differentiation as an act of concealment is followed on 8 May by the contribution from Professor Dr. Tilman Allert on the change in generation specific dress codes. On 12 June, Professor Dr. Benigna Gerisch is then speaking about the aestheticisations of the body between self-optimisation and auto destruction. The summer semester's Public Lecture Series ends on 3 July with Dr. Danielle Knafo from New York, who is giving a talk about the self-representation of woman in art in the 20th century.
Come along to the talks and join in the discussion with our guests and us.
We are looking forward to meeting you there.
